JARDIN DE PRINTEMPS
116 x 73cm
A body of work that holds particular personal significance for Amy is her Florescence collection. “As one of three sisters, fortunate enough to have an incredibly courageous mother, and having grown up around strong, confident, talented women that I am proud to call my friends - I returned to my studio to create a collection inspired purely by the strength, grit, and resilience of women.”
The series started with Les Vaillantes, which was created in a single, cathartic and beautiful session. In this session, Amy's intuitive and expressive brushstrokes were inspired by the warmth, energy, resilience, and openness of her mother.
Amy went on to produce two sister paintings, Bloom and The Bold Spirited, both paying homage to her two sisters and the power in women supporting women as they grow and blossom. "I wanted to take on the difficult challenge of encompassing gentleness and warmth, growth, our imperfections, grit, and the resilience of women around the world."
Amy frequents life drawing sessions several times a week, or 'Modele Vivant' as it’s named in France, her new home. This practice holds significant value for Amy, not only because it instills the need for continual development of draftsmanship skills and fine-tuning of a critical eye, but also because it is a brilliant way to disconnect from the digital world's portrayal of human form and beauty standards. Instead, it focuses on celebrating real bodies with stories and character.
Amy has drawn and painted individuals of all walks of life, shapes, sizes, and abilities, and has felt most inspired when painting women at different stages of their pregnancy. "Our ability to create life and endure the changes and challenges that come with carrying a child astounds me." While it may seem unusual for a floral collection to take its inspiration from the female form and strength, Amy believes it is entirely fitting as a metaphor for womanhood.
